Dr. Steven M. Silverstein
After completing his internship in internal medicine, Dr. Steven M. Silverstein received his training in ophthalmology at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Silverstein then completed his subspecialty fellowship in corneal transplantation and external diseases at the Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan, where he also served as clinical professor.
A board-certified ophthalmologist and fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Silverstein is active in a number of professional medical organizations, including the American Board of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Midwest Cornea Society, the Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, the Missouri Medical Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
In addition to private practice, Dr. Silverstein serves as a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine and the University of Health Sciences, and enjoys his work as a state elected city councilman, mayor pro tem, and police commissioner for the city of Lake Winnebago, Missouri. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Truman Heartland Foundation, The Rainbow Center for special needs children, and on the advisory board for the Gift of Life organ transplant organization. Active in Rotary International, Dr. Silverstein is a Paul Harris fellow in charitable giving. He has published in major medical journals, and lectures extensively around the world.
He and his wife Elisa, a pediatric emergency physician at Children’s Mercy Hospital, have three children, David, Rebecca, and Laura. Dr. Silverstein is a classical pianist and enjoys skiing, boating and water sports.
