• UNHEALTHY HABITS THAT COULD BE HARMING YOUR VISION

Practicing healthy lifestyle habits can help you maintain your vision and protect your eyes. However, many individuals tend to practice unhealthy habits that could be contributing to worsened vision. Take a look at the following lifestyle habits you should avoid at all costs to maintain your eye health.

    READING IN LOW LIGHT

Many individuals enjoy reading or writing in bed at the end of the day to help them wind down. These activities can be a nice way to relax and prepare for bed, but you need to make sure you have plenty of light. Poor lighting conditions can cause you to experience eye strain, which can have a lasting effect on the health of your eyes.

    STARING AT THE SCREEN

It may be impossible to stay away from digital screens since they’re an integral part of the modern lifestyle. However, be careful about the amount of time you spend looking at the screen, and make sure you allow your eyes to rest when working on the computer or watching television. If you are spending a lot of time in front of a screen, take time to close your eyes every so often. It is also beneficial to look up and let your eyes focus on something located across the room.

    LOOKING AT THE SUN

Never look directly at the sun, even if there is an astrological event occurring. If you are looking at a solar eclipse or any other object near the sun, then the bright ultraviolet rays may cause damage to your eyes. It is possible that too much direct exposure can lead to specific eye problems such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Protect your eyes by not looking directly at the sun, and make sure that you wear sunglasses outside.

    WEARING MAKEUP AND BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Be careful about the types of beauty products you place on and around your eyelids and eyes, since some makeup products could cause damage to your eyes. Do research to fully understand the safety of the makeup products you use frequently, and don’t put anything near your eyes that aren’t designed to be used for eyes.

    SMOKING

There are many reasons why smoking is bad for your general health, and this habit can be very harmful to your eyes as well. Smoking can increase the level of inflammation in your body, and increase your risk for a number of diseases and health problems, such as age-related macular degeneration.

    RUBBING YOUR EYES

If you are tired or your eyes are itchy, it seems natural to rub them. But, frequent eye rubbing can cause damage to your eyes, and it is important that you are careful about the pressure and friction that occurs to your eyelids and eyeballs. When you have itchy eyes, wash your face and place a cold compress over your eyes to reduce itching.
