Glasses and Frames
Reading Glasses
Presbyopia is part of the natural aging process which requires all people to need reading glasses for near activities sometime after age 40.
Sun Glasses
Sunglasses are variously termed spectacles or glasses, which feature lenses that are coloured, polarized or darkened to prevent strong light from reaching the eyes. Many people find direct sunlight too bright to be comfortable. During outdoor activities, the human eye can receive more light than usual. Healthcare professionals recommend eye protection whenever outside to protect the eyes from ultraviolet radiation.
Frames
Frames are generally made from plastic, nylon, a metal or metal alloy and can hold the lenses in several different ways. There are three common styles:
•
full frame
•
half frame
•
frameless
Full frame glasses have the frame go all around the lenses. Half frames go around only half the lens, typically the frames attach to the top of the lenses and on the side near the top. Frameless glasses have no frame around the lenses and the ear stems are attached directly to the lenses.
