Silverstein Eye Centers Acquires Naming Rights to Independence Events Center

Facility to be Renamed Silverstein Eye Centers Arena

Spectra by Comcast Spectacor, the providers of Venue Management and Food Services & Hospitality to the Independence Events Center, and the City of Independence today announced a new multi-year partnership with Silverstein Eye Centers in which the arena will be renamed the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

The deal, approved by Independence Events Center Management Corporation, includes major exterior and interior signage, a renewed partnership with both the Missouri Mavericks and Missouri Comets and brand recognition in all advertising for the facility. The arena’s website domain changed today to reflect the arena’s new name www.SilversteinEyeCentersArena.com. All signage is expected to be in place in time for the Mavericks’ home opener on Saturday, October 24.

“As a great corporate ambassador and visionary in his industry, we are truly thankful to Dr. Steven Silverstein for his continued support,” said Mayor Eileen Weir. “We are proud to have his name featured on a place that is so important to our Independence community.”

“I am very happy to be able to make this commitment to the Kansas City community in which I live and work,” said Steven M. Silverstein MD, FACS “The community has been very supportive of my practice, and the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena is an opportunity to thank and support Kansas City. Additionally, in partnership with Mayor Eileen Weir, Lamar Hunt Jr. and Spectra by Comcast Spectacor, we will bring terrific Independence that will serve families and the business community.”

“Silverstein Eye Centers and the Independence Events Center have enjoyed a lengthy relationship and we are proud to continue that today,” said Spectra’s Todd Mitchell, General Manager of the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. “Among the many services Spectra provides to the venue and the City of Independence, the company identified and negotiated the naming rights contract with Silverstein Eye Centers.”

The change in name is the latest highlight in a long list of transformations attributed to Spectra’s work at the facility since the City of Independence awarded the venue management contract to Spectra by Comcast Spectacor in July of 2014. In addition to significantly increasing concert bookings and family shows, Spectra created the inaugural Independence Fire & Ice barbecue competition and plans to bring back other popular events like the University of Kansas vs. University of Missouri Hockey Border Showdown. With a continuing effort on enhancing the customer experience, Spectra is also in the process of offering new parking solutions, upgrading food and beverage options and adding new premium level amenities for the 2015-16 season.

Centrally located, the 5,800-seat Silverstein Eye Centers Arena is the premier entertainment destination of Eastern Jackson County. The arena is home to the Mavericks of the ECHL, the Comets of the MASL and has hosted a multitude of concerts by internationally recognized artists such as the Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande and Alan Jackson.
