Silverstein Eye Centers Receives Truman Heartland Foundation Corporate Citizen Award

Steven Silverstein, MD, was honored to receive the Truman Heartland Corporate Citizen Award at this year’s Toast to our Towns Gala held at the Sheraton Crown Center. He gratefully accepted the award on behalf of Silverstein Eye Centers as his family was proudly present to support him. Dr. Silverstein inspired the over 700 attendees with his commitment to philanthropy as a way of life, and a corporate responsibility. He and his wife Elisa have in turn instilled philanthropy in their three children: David, Rebecca and Laura. Dr. Silverstein explained:

“Once our careers were underway, Elisa and I have immersed ourselves in organizations which perform good deeds locally, nationally and around the world. It was critically important that our children understand the meaning of philanthropy from their earliest days. They grew up with philanthropy as part of our natural routine, and now as adults, they each actively participate in organizations about which they are passionate. They idea of charitable giving is not something in which one may participate, but rather, a concept around which we build our lives.”

Dr. Silverstein told the audience that philanthropy has always been fundamental within their medical practice, contributing to countless free health clinics, Operation Breakthrough, Rotary International, The Rainbow Center, The Gift of Life, Down Syndrome, Heart of America, Catholic Charities, and many other worthy organizations. Dr. Silverstein suggested to the Gala attendees that they partner with the Truman Heartland Foundation and that they familiarize themselves with the outstanding work that the organization does for Eastern Jackson County and surrounding areas. He said: “The Truman Heartland Foundation is truly a shining jewel in our community.”
