Will I Need Glasses after LASIK?

Greater Kansas City, Missouri

Tue, 11/15/2011

Most patients experience improved vision without the need for corrective lenses following LASIK surgery.

However, there is no guarantee of perfect vision with LASIK, and LASIK will not eliminate the need for corrective eyewear associated with presbyopia, age-related vision loss that typically begins around age 40.

While LASIK cannot permanently correct presbyopia, laser surgery can be used to treat the effects of presbyopia in a procedure to create monovision. In a monovision procedure, your LASIK surgeon will focus your dominant eye for long distance and your nondominant eye for near distance.

Factors that may affect whether you will require glasses or contacts following LASIK include:

  • Your age
  • Your vision problem
  • The type of LASIK procedure
